Vegan Diet Experience #Veganuary

If you have read my last blog entry entitled Weight Loss Program 2016 #Veganuary, you would know that my friends and I are currently in a healthy competition of trying to lose weight up until March of 2016!! What a great way to start the year right! And by starting the year right, as I searched through the internet looking for healthy meal plans and food recipes I suddenly came across a youtube video which talks about veganuary (Vegan-January). I was curious about what it was so I did some research, visited their website and learned more about what veganism is. Their causes for animals are really inspiring. I like the idea that they are not trying to force people into anything, it's just a promotional campaign wherein they help people discover and experience what a vegan diet is. By trying vegan diet this month, not only that less animals are killed to be food for the month of January but also, if the person who tried the diet liked it so far then it's his/her choice whether he/she would want to continue with this lifestyle or not. I am not vegan and I am not trying to promote anything but I think that this is a great way for me to jump start a healthy eating habit this year. To be honest I don't think I can last, especially with how barbeque and burgers are just around the corner here in Manila. Also snacks in the grocery stores and most restaurants here in the Philippines are not yet as vegan friendly as how it is in other countries, but I am still challenging myself to be on a strict vegan diet this month by making my own food.

For the past few days I have been eating food that is delivered to me by The Sexy Chef. I chose their vegan/vegetarian fit meal plan. However vegetarian is different from vegan, and there are days that I get a vegetarian meal from them. I know, vegan attempt - fail! I once ate hardboiled egg and also, I craved and drank milk tea boba two days ago. Double failure! But still, I am decided to continue with the vegan diet despite the struggles and failures. I am still learning and I still have two weeks to make it right! I think the key is to be more hands on with my food and just cook them on my own. This way I can control the ingredients and enjoy the process of experimenting food without meat and poultry products. Veganuary website is really helpful, they have a variety of food recipes to choose from. Plus you will be amazed by their list of accidentally vegan snacks, who would think that oreos and pringles are actually vegan snacks!?

Try it yourself! Enjoy the process and experiment. Besides, you are only going to do this for one month. So why not? If you want to go through vegan diet for the remaining two weeks of January, this video might be helpful for you.

Let me know what you think about this campaign through the comment section below. Are you in? Or not?
