How To Deal With Postpartum Hair Fall

I am really freaking out right now. The past few weeks, I thought I was just having a regular hair fall. You know, the hair fall that you usually get in the shower when you shampoo your hair and the hair strands that usually get stuck on the brush when brushing the hair. And then I realized that I was losing too much hair. When we clean the bathroom, it's all hair that's clogging the drain. When we sweep the floor, instead of getting dust we get a handful of hair. I didn't pay too much attention at first, until I saw my scalp above my forehead balding. Yes, you read it right! Balding!! I can see parts of my scalp with no hair and it's scary!

Based on my research it is normal for mommies who have just given birth to experience intense hair fall, it says that it usually occur on the third month after giving birth. During this time most women forget that they are still on the postpartum stage until they experience a symptom like this. On my experience, my hair was really thick and beautiful during pregnancy and some articles stated that the reason for this is because of the prenatal vitamins and supplements I was taking. It makes the hair extra healthy and intact which will eventually change because of the normal hormonal change that women experience after giving birth.

I found some natural home remedies you can do to combat postpartum hair loss:

2 table spoon of Castor Oil + 1 Egg Yolk + 1 table spoon of Honey

You can replace castor oil with almond oil or olive oil because these oils are proven to help you with hair growth. Egg yolk is high in protein, fatty acids and vitamins which will help strengthen the hair. And lastly, honey will help your scalp produce the natural moisture your hair needs to avoid dry hair. Mix all three ingredients. Apply this DIY hair mask from the roots to ends, leave it for about 2-4 hours and repeat this once or twice a week for better results.

1 medium sized Onion + 1 table spoon of Honey + 1 table spoon of Olive Oil

Onion is a great natural home remedy to help you with hair loss. Not only that it promotes hair growth but it also strengthens the hair to prevent future hair fall. Mix all the ingredients above in a blender, and then strain it. Apply the juice on scalp, leave it for 1-2 hours then rinse it off with shampoo. Make sure to shampoo your hair well to remove the smell of the onion juice. Do this once a week and you'll see good results in a month.

1 cup of Aloe Vera Gel + 1 cup of Green Tea

Green tea can restore hair, it stimulates hair growth and and prevent hair loss because of its anti-oxidant ingredients. Aloe vera on the other hand is an add on ingredient for faster hair growth, it also conditions dry hair. You can use the aloe vera gel that can be found in the cosmetic section of the mall, it is usually in a jar ready for use. Or if you really want to go all natural, buy the plant, cut it open and squeeze out the gel. Mix the two ingredients together in a blender, blend until the aloe vera gel is thoroughly mashed, this DIY solution can be used as a shampoo or a hair mask, do this 4-5 times a week for better results. Note: If you will use the aloe vera gel found from the aloe vera plant, remember to keep left overs refrigerated. It can last up to 4 weeks.
