Reality Of A Work-From-Home Mom

The past few weeks have been really hectic. My boyfriend and I are so excited for the christening of Tali and I've been busy preparing things for the reception venue. The reception party is mostly DIY by yours truly, and I can't wait to see how everything would look like.

Aside from preparing for the reception party of Tali's christening, applying for an online job also kept me busy. I applied on an online teaching company for an extra income on top of the commissions I make from being a land broker and the freelance interior design gigs that I get. Moms nowadays must be practical. As for me, I try to earn and add a little bit on the income my boyfriend makes.

In my experience while going through all the seminars and trainings online which ate most of my time last week and early this week, I realized that choosing to work from home is like being at home but you're also not. I enumerated below the realities of a work-from-home mom.

You don't have time to do the chores.

Most moms like myself, choose to stay and work at home so that they can be hands-on in terms of maintaining, cleaning and organizing everything at home without hiring a helper. I know it's a mom thing to act all super hero and multi-task, but let's face it there's just so much we can do and we can't do everything all at once. So the reality here is that, for weeks now my boyfriend and I have been looking for a helper/yaya for my kid for me to have more time for work and more time to do some errands.

You also don't have the time to make home-cooked meals.

As much as I would like to cook dinner for my boyfriend, being busy with Tali and now with my online job, it's just so impossible for me to add cooking on my everyday to-do-list. For weeks now, we've been eating home cooked to-go food from a carinderia down our condo.

Quality time with your partner and kids are actually limited.

Like what I have said earlier, moms can't do everything all at once. So if you're trying to be productive with the idea of earning as much money as you can while at home, you might want to focus on that first and then set a timed schedule for quality time.

Your monthly income fluctuates.

There are a lot of factors why working from home will not provide you a fixed monthly income. First if you're doing freelance chances are, you don't have regular projects to work on. Second, you must ready yourself that most clients don't pay on time. Lastly, working from home means having a flexible time and it's so tempting not to work and do something else instead. So if you choose not to work to do something else, then you choose not to have income for those time wasted.

It takes discipline to be successful in working at home.

As I have said earlier, it is so tempting to do something else when you have flexible hours at work. It is so easy to relax and procrastinate when your boss is yourself. The key here is to discipline yourselves by learning how to manage your time wisely and learning to set your priorities. It is very important that you have a goal, and to reach that goal ask yourselves, who are you doing this for? If you ask me, I do this for my family most especially for Tali, my boyfriend and I already decided that my online job income will go straight to savings for Tali's future use.

Having said all these, let me know through the comment box below if working from home works for you. Until my next post! See ya!
