DIY: How I Did My Accent Wall

I was home alone one time and was really bored of how my living room area was looking, it felt like it needed color and some personal touch. So I decided to schedule a trip to the hardware and grabbed all things I will be needing for this project.

Step 1: Before anything else, be sure to move all the furniture away from the wall you want to paint. Cover the furniture if needed, just so the furniture is protected from the paint.

Let's start off by using masking tapes. Since I am not a professional wall painter, I used masking tape as markings for the strips I want for this wall. Don't forget to measure the wall since the strips has to be equal from eachother.

I also placed masking tapes on the floor to protect my floor laminates from paint drippings. The masking tape on the floor has a double purpose since I also used this to label my markings as to where the yellow paint will go.

In painting any wall don't forget to put masking tapes on existing switch, outlet and sprinkler if there's any.

Step 2: This is optional but to be sure, I placed manila paper on the floor to prevent paint drippings that can ruin my laminate flooring.

When all the masking tapes are set, go ahead and pour your desired color of pre-mixed paint on the paint tray, then go paint away using the baby rollers. We want the application of the paint to be even. It is kind of the same concept when painting your nails, you don't want the first application to be too thick or too thin for the second and third application to be just right.

Also, you want to make sure that the paint is just along the masking tape lines. If in any case that you go beyond the markings, don't panic! Get a wet towel and quickly wipe away. Wet towel should be enough for a water based paint, if not then you'll be needing a paint thinner for that.

When the paint dries, it should look something like this. Next step is to position your uneven frames for the gallery wall, perfectly.

Step 3: Using your manila paper or old news papers, trace all the frames you want to hang on your gallery wall. Cut it by its shape and size, write down which frame is which to avoid confusion. After cutting your traced frames, put 'x' marks as to where the hooks on the frame should go.

Step 4: Since I already have existing hooks on the wall, I already placed one frame and a painting I got from an event I went to called ManilArt. Using the traced frames and a magic tape, you can play around and change frame positions with out ruining the newly painted wall.

Step 5: When you're already happy with the position of your traced frames, start putting hooks on your 'x' marks with the use of a hammer.

This is how it should look like. When finished, remove all traced frames and start placing the actual frames.
